Brief of drilling mud agitator 

A drilling fluids agitator is used in surface mud systems to suspend solids and maintain a homogeneous mixture throughout the system. A mechanical agitator is driven by an explosion-proof motor, coupled to a gearbox that drives the impeller shaft. The impellers (turbines) transform mechanical power into fluid circulation or agitation. The objective is to obtain a uniform suspension of all solids

Aipu APMA mud agitator is available in horizontal and vertical types. The shaft and impeller can be carbon steel or stainless steel type. Per different tank sizes and materials to be mixed, we'll design agitators with different motors and shaft sizes. The mud agitator will be mounted on the mud tank. Almost every compartment will request an agitator as a mixer to keep drilling fluid solids suspension. Except for the shaker tank, as there is a trap compartment.

Oilfield drilling mud agitator technical specification

• Flame-proof electrical motor with ExdIIbT4 or higher standard, IP 56 or higher protection level, Zone 1, 4 poles motor.

• Worm or bevel gear options for open selection. The worm gear is cost effective but the larger footprint and the bevel gear is a small footprint, high working effectiveness, and higher price.

• Couper connected between electrical and gear for protection to pass motor rotation speed to the gearbox which will drive shaft.

• Shaft installed on gearbox for 1000mm to 2800mm depending on tank height. A stabilizer was installed to help the shaft work steadily.

• Single layer or double later impeller installed on the shaft to reach agitating performance.

Oilfield drilling mud agitator options

Horizontal worm gear type agitator, this is the most popular agitator used in oil and gas mud tanks because it’s cost effective. There are coupler options for agitator to protect gear or options without a coupler for saving cost.

A horizontal bevel gear type agitator is a very good option for larger torque and minimum footprint. The bevel gear is much higher in torque compared to the worm gear. Better performance, higher cost vertical agitator, this is well used for vertical tanks with a small footprint but higher height.

Application of oilfield drilling mud agitator

A mud agitator is used for mixing drilling fluid to prevent solid particles of drilling fluid from depositing in its tank circulation system so that the performance of circulating drilling fluid is stable and mixed evenly.

• Agitator principle standard impeller type: Axial flow impeller 45° The impeller will make a predominantly axial fluid movement and bottom solids be pressed upwards.
• Optional impeller type: Radial flow impeller. The impeller will make a predominantly horizontal movement.
