Mud skips are the containers used to handle the waste or cuttings at offshore platform. It is also referred as drilling cutting box. However, more and more onshore drilling site prefer such containers, too. They are usually requested to be certified according to DNV2.7-1.

Where and why do we need the cutting boxes?

The drilling cuttings waste or the drilling fluids disposal discharged from solids control equipment need to be treated for further drying process. Especially for the offshore drilling waste management. The mud skips will collect the waste and cuttings from the solids control equipment or system. Then the waste will be delivered to a certain onshore place for further process.

Mud skips for one project or platform are same size. They can be loaded on each other and stacked upside to save sapce. Such cutting boxes are made with high quality seal material. This will help to transfer fluids or the mixture of solid and liquid without leakage. It's easy to handle drilling fluids at an assembly point. We know at offshore platform the cuttings may can't be treated at once but they can be shipped to land site for a better process and storage.

What are the structure of the mud skips?

The mud skips are cubiod and cubit pattern. They are made of high quality marine sheet. They are processed stricly according practical condition. Such as the anti-corrosion painting. The leakage test, the load and unload test, the welding NDT test. There are box wall and top doors. The pad eyes, the slings and so on if ncessary. 

Drilling mud skips are similar with the sea shipment container but better sealed with smaller dimension and volume. One lot cuttings container will be fabricated with same size and general frame for convenient transportation and store. They can be used on both onshore and offshore platform. It holds high flexibility on certain size with custom built service.

Some clients need the boxes to hold mud weights 7000kg, while some prefer 9000kg. This is defined by the actual demand and working condition. The volume and material weight vary since the different size. On the mud skips there are top doors, the man hole side, the cleaning gate, and so on.
